Or are you afraid to try this hobby again because of past failures? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, then you need to know about the Houston Aquarium Society.

The Houston Aquarium Society has been in existence for more than 50 years. We exist to promote the keeping of aquarium fishes and to help our members and others explore this wonderful world. The Houston Aquarium Society meets once a month at local fish stores or in other locations, dates and locations as announced on the Calendar Page above. We also have other events throughout the year such as shows, auctions, field trips, and seminars. We publish a newsletter, The Fish Fancier, filled with informative articles and news about upcoming events and the hobby as a whole. We maintain a strong educational program with aquariums maintained in schools, nursing homes, and other beneficial locations throughout the community.

The Houston Aquarium Society is the oldest aquarium society in Texas and was officially founded in April 1950. The meetings were originally held at the University of Houston in the Science Building. There was from the beginning a strong focus on educating children with the "junior society". The meetings throughout the years have moved around a bit, from banks to the Houston Museum of Natural Science to the Children’s Auditorium at the Houston Zoo to their present location. The focus, however, has always remained the same. Membership has fluctuated, but our core has always been strong. The members of the Houston Aquarium Society were the first to introduce dwarf white worms as a live fish food and made those cultures available throughout the world.
